Black Badge is one of the coolest series out there, and just because it recently wrapped its 12-issue run, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get it in your hands. Having said that, you can imagine just how excited I was to be able to sit down and interview the creative team behind this BOOM! Studios story: Matt Kindt (writer), Tyler Jenkins (art) and Hilary Jenkins (colors). Long story short, the book came about when Matt (for years) joked about scouts, and why are they never scouting. Black Badge puts these scouts on actual government-sanctioned missions abroad. Now that’s some secret ops anyone can be intrigued by. And believe me, you won’t be able to put this book down once you start it.

At the beginning of our interview we take a quick step back to discuss the other fantastic series this team created, and that’s the Eisner-nominated Grass Kings. A story that as Kindt puts it: “Grass Kings is a unique book for me, in that the idea came from Tyler (Jenkins)…it was Tyler’s idea and I felt weird about it as a writer, it’s the first time I’d been asked as a writer to take someone’s idea and elaborate on it or do something more with it, and I just felt uncomfortable.” But, damn, so happy Kindt jumped on that book. To hear more on the origin of how Grass Kings got started, and a lot more about Black Badge, then go ahead and listen to the full interview below. You’ll be happy that you did. Also, a big thanks again to Matt Kindt, Tyler Jenkins and Hilary Jenkins for making time for this interview. You’re all awesome.
