Calgary Expo 2015 - Sam Maggs: The Fangirl's Ultimate Hero

Hey there fellow geeks and nerds, have I got a treat for you. The funny and super awesome Sam Maggs took time from her schedule at the Calgary Expo to chat with me. She is an Associate Editor at The Mary Sue - a very cool site dedicated to ensuring women are fairly represented in every area of geek culture and so much more. Maggs is also the author of the book THE FANGIRL'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY, which hits shelves, tablets and more May 12, 2015. As you'll hear - when you hit play on the Soundcloud link - Maggs goes into why she wrote this book, how incredibly important it is that no matter your age, girls and women are not alone in this huge and fun world of geekdom. Plus, we touch on the topic of "trolls" and while they are the worst things to ever exist, there are way more people to support fangirl's who experience online abuse or harassment then there are of those bottom-feeding lesser lifeforms.

While  at the Calgary Expo this weekend, Maggs is hosting two panels: Agents of SHIELD with Ming Na Wen (Agent May) and Brett Dalton (Grant Ward) on Saturday and also Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter) on Sunday. So make sure you line up for those because they will get packed quickly. For all of the Canadians listening, you can also see Maggs at your local theater before the movies. And finally, as a father of a daughter, I am so glad that she will grow up with so many great and strong female role models, like Sam Maggs. Thank you.
