Are you ready for a monster of an interview? Great! Because Chris Cam and George Michail, the incredibly talented writers and creators behind one of the most fun and awesome comic book series out there today, Cover of Darkness, are here to give us the goods on the comic, and it’s January 2022 release date—that’s next month!—in your local comic shop (LCS) via Source Point Press. In fact, I strongly recommend going to your LCS and asking them to order the six-issue mini-series now. Issues one and two are available for pre-order. I cannot recommend this series highly enough. You’ll be happy it’s on your pull list. Also, it features stunningly incredible art by MJ Hiblen, is lettered by Nikki Powers, and features a variant (cover B) by Scott McDaniel. Michail gives a brief overview of what to expect in this series:

“It’s like Game of Thrones meets the Universal monsters. It’s about a family in medieval Romania and they get separated. They encounter vampires, werewolves, the mummy, creature from the black lagoon and Frankenstein. It’s about this family’s journey back to each other.”

And be sure to keep an eye on Previews magazine (or chat with your LCS) for the series of one-shot issues being released as well—featuring Andy Belanger on one of these books, too. To say there are some pretty damn exciting things coming from Cover of Darkness in 2022 is a massive understatement!

Cam and Michail cannot say enough great thing about their artist, MJ Hiblen.

George Michail on Hiblen:

“He does everything digitally with his finger. He doesn't use a pencil or a stylus. He has a real gritty and kinetic energy to his artwork that I think fits our subject matter perfectly. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”

Chris Cam on Hiblen:

“We've never had a conversation over the phone with him. All of our interactions have been through email, Instagram and direct messages…Nothing has actually been spoken and that’s the amazing aspect of our modern technology. We can have a multi-year running business where we haven’t ever had a conversation in person. He’s just a phenomenal talent.”

Now three years in the business of comics, and all the fun that comes with it, Cam and Michail shared their favourite moments so far. Michail talks about when he held the first printed copies of their comic, and the huge impact it made on him. Cam talks about sharing the book with fans at conventions and those conversations that come up around it.

But there is so much more! Please go ahead and watch their full interview below. Feel free to share with your friends, too.

Recommendation: You can also find George Michail on his YouTube show: Inside Comics.
