One name: Joe Quesada. The name alone is all the intro. you need. That’s right, I interviewed the artist and creative giant at the inaugural Fan Expo San Francisco. He brought us so many incredible works over the years during his time at Marvel. This man is so incredibly nice, and humble. I may have only sat down with him for 11 minutes and 27 seconds, but damn, it was such a joy to have that time with him. I am not going to write a long history of Quesada, but our comics chat starts in the early days, specifically, the series he and co-creator Jimmy Palmiotti put together: ASH. This is one of my favourite creator-owned books from the 90’s, published via Event Comics. Quesada tells the background of how the character and the series came to be. You really need to listen to him tell the story. Mainly because it’ll be much more fun than reading it here. As my chat with Quesada went on, he talked about signing exclusively with Marvel Comics and, as many of us may already know, he would eventually usher in the highly popular MARVEL KNIGHTS line of comics, which made a great jumping on point for readers who perhaps hadn’t read some of the characters showcased in those books at that time. When it comes to highs and lows in his career, Quesada talks about looking forward rather than looking back, and while there were many creative highs, it’s the people, relationships and friendships he made that he’ll miss the most, not necessarily the iconic characters. Go on, hit play on the interview and have a listen.
