Writer, Aaron Reynolds, offers up a fantastic series—EFFIN’ BIRDS—which I’d like to sum up as excellently creative, and made for just about anyone looking for a good laugh, and perhaps, to release some frustration. Because hey, I know swearing always helps at the worst…and best of times. When I met up with Reynolds at Edmonton Expo 2023, the first thing I took note of was a tally he had going for those who took a free sticker, and those who didn’t. Oh, the sticker simply read: Eat Farts. Who can’t laugh at that? Apparently (at the time of this interview), four people clearly couldn’t because they turned down the sticker offer. I’m certain Reynolds has some birds with thoughts on it. The beauty of the EFFIN’ BIRDS series, is it’s found on a plethora of merch—from books to playing cards and from magnets to drinkware, and everything in between. Reynolds says this about how he got it started:
“Effin Birds is my daily comic strip where I pair up all of my frustrations with life, with beautiful bird art to make it a little more palatable…I saw this picture of an owl that looked really sad, and it made me realize that you can map human emotions of frustration, anger, sadness really easily onto birds faces, and this comic strip was born.”
He perfectly and succinctly marries majestic art renderings of birds with some pretty salty, effin language. And it’s fuc*king hilarious!
