Comic creator Jim Zub—who hasn’t missed a Calgary Expo since the show started, made his way back to Calgary Expo 2022 for its official 15th anniversary, after a two-year pandemic pause. The last time he and I sat down to chat comics was in 2019, where we talked about the series Stone Star he created with artist Max Dunbar (via Comixology and also available in print via Dark Horse Comics). To see him in person and talk comics again was all kinds of fantastic fun.

Zub has a plethora of creator-owned books, as well as multiple Marvel, Image, IDW, Oni, Adult Swim andWotC,properties under his belt to date, and he doesn’t stop—which is great for all of us! The variety of genres he has worked on is simply astounding. Zub continues to push the type of story he tells. From creator-owned work mashing monsters in SKULL KICKERS to STONE STAR and WAYARD, as well as CHAMPIONS to CONAN with Marvel and Dungeons & Dragons and Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons, and most recently released—what some weren’t expecting, but glad he wrote it—WORLD OF DARKNESS: CRIMSON THAW (via Vault Comics). The list just doesn't stop. Having mentioned all that cool stuff, go ahead and hit play on the interview with Zub at Calgary Expo 2022 (below).

There are some great bits in the interview about his first solo writing gig on the newest THUNDERBOLTS series—coming out later this summer (August),. Also, he shares a nice back story about his connection to Calgary Expo, as well as a cool origin story how Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons (with artist Troy Little) came together. In that, he didn’t think it would even happen.
