I had the super-fun opportunity to sit down and chat all things comics with IDW Senior Editor, Heather Antos. The 2022 Calgary Expo (its 15th anniversary) was her first time in Calgary and I’m so glad she made time to meet and talk comics with me. A little background on her career, she is the co-creator of Marvel’s GWENPOOL, as well as creator of Doctor Aphra. She has worked professionally in comics for just under 10 years now. Antos talks about how she got herself into comics and and the networking behind the scenes to get herself through the doors to sitting in the editor chair. She also shares insights on why she absolutely loves being an editor and how working with the same creative team on two different books is completely different. Of course, there was a chat about the effects of the pandemic and how it didn’t really change her day-to-day work, aside from more Zoom meetings, that is. Antos also gives a very honest and fun look at the impact of working with top comic superstars when she started at Marvel, and how she very quickly needed to get over that and do her job. If you get the chance to meet and chat with Antos at a convention, I highly recommend you do. It’s definitely going to be a great comics chat, as well as seeing the incredible breadth of work Antos brings to the (comic convention) table.
