During the 15th anniversary of the Calgary Expo, I sat down for a quick chat with Eisner award-winning Canadian artist, Cary Nord. First off, his work is amazing. Plus, he’s also a super nice guy, too. So if you get a chance to chat with him, like I did, then you’re in for a treat. Especially, when he tells you about his creator-owned series, Fol’klor—which is also his first dive into writing as well. Nord talks spoiler-free about his first ever indie-owned and published book this way: “The book itself is about a young woman who finds out she’s got all these powers and she doesn’t know where she comes from…she was found in the forest. It’s set in about 18th century alternative history…based on Slavic Gods.”

Have a listen to the interview and hear as Nord gives his take on how the Fol’klor Kickstarter campaign went, what he experienced and what it was like to turn down work to ensure he can get his book out there.
